ABSTRACT

There exist a number of programs for student leadership development at The University of Alabama in Huntsville. We have selected one of the most innovative ones which directly relate to the engineering curricula for presentation. The program is a student satellite program which was initiated and implemented by The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Chapter of Students for Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) with faculty members as advisors.

To describe this program, we divide it into two parts: (i) programmatic and (ii) technology. In the programmatic part, the leadership development of infrastructure to manage and finance the SEDSAT- 1 program will be presented. On the technical part, the engineering leadership development for the design, fabrication, and operation of SEDSAT- 1 will be discussed. This is an on-going project. Overall assessment of the program will be speculated. The final criteria for the assessment of the success or failure will be discussed.
