ABSTRACT

A fundamental change which have taken place since 1996 necessarily reflects the inevitable requirements concerning the structure and quality of master's degree programs. These topical requirements have been taken into account also at the VSB- Technical University of Ostrava. This concerns both under and post-graduate forms of study.

New study programs of the whole range of subjects have asked for conceptual changes of natural sciences study. Just to give an example, classic concept of physics progressively moves in favor of the modern one in which properties and physical laws of behavior of substances are interpreted as a macro-level reflection of dynamic processes taking place at micro-level in the structure of substances, etc. Modern theoretical education in physics and chemistry obviously also calls for the related syllabus adaptation when teaching mathematics. This should further lay the grounding of the necessary methods of programming and modeling of technological processes, and for the application of computing technology on specialist subjects.

The subject of Material Engineering serves and example of attitudes towards innovation of study. In the course there are incorporated theoretical principles of modern methods of production of various materials reflecting their reliable and safe use in design. Another such modernization of study program is, in the framework of commercial engineering, the concentration on the sources of raw materials- their utilization and prospector activities. Technical subjects in large are structured so as to ensure that the prospective engineers have a feel for the environment.

Parallel attention is given also to so called clean technologies, and problems of waste management. Taking this new concept of study into account, it is necessary to develop a system of communication which would into-connect individual subjects and generate appropriate feed-back.
