ABSTRACT

In 1990, Georgia Institute of Technology created Georgia Tech Lorraine, its European platform, in Metz, France, to respond to the growing demand for engineers who must fulfill the requirements of the emerging global market. Georgia Tech Lorraine conducts research activities and develops graduate academic programs in Europe under the responsibility of Georgia Institute of Technology. Two types of graduate programs in electrical and computer engineering have been developed in partnership with local universities and engineering schools. The first type is targeted toward European students who wish to enhance their education with a Master of Science from Georgia Tech. The second type of programs enable US students to pursue an integrated program leading to the Master of Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a graduate degree from a partner institution. The paper presents the structure of the programs offered to US students by Georgia Tech Lorraine and SUPELEC and the opportunities and challenges encountered by both students and faculty involved in the programs.
