Dear Colleagues:

Please join us in the ancient city of Tainan in Taiwan for iCEER-2005.  One of the series of conferences held around the world since 1994 and sponsored by the International Network for Engineering Education and Research (iNEER), iCEER-2005 is hosted by National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), one of the best and largest comprehensive universities in Taiwan, with a strong tradition in engineering and related fields.

iNEER is a unique, global, volunteer, networking, professional organization formed by the world engineering community to promote mutual progress in teaching and learning through international cooperation. The goal of iNEER is to help advance engineering education and research through international understanding and partnership. The widening iNEER network of educators and researchers in engineering and allied disciplines covers 98 countries, and is linked through the iNEER website, archival publications, e-mails, conferences, workshops, and retreats. See http://www.ineer.org for more details.

NCKU faculty and students work closely with companies located in the nearby Tainan Science Park, and are helping to drive the next wave in economic development in Taiwan. You will learn first-hand how this is done and, as well, what are the best practices for industry-university collaboration.

Also of concern will be how to bring the latest research advances into the classroom. There will be answers for questions such as: “How should nanotechnology be taught in the undergraduate and graduate levels?” “What are the pros and cons in establishing new degree programs that are tailored to new technological development?” “How important is it to introduce K-12 students to emerging technologies?” “How can we exploit the use of wireless technologies in the classroom instead of discouraging their use?” “What are the latest methodologies for assessment of student learning?” “What is the new thinking in the relation between remote education and the classroom?” “What is the best way to infuse advances in education research into engineering education?”

Plan on meeting some of the leading members of engineering education from the 98 countries of the iNEER Network. Seize the opportunity to develop new international linkages and meet old friends.

In addition to an interesting and rewarding technical program, iCEER-2005 also offers participants an opportunity to sample the famous hospitality of the people of Taiwan. Those of you who attended the ICEE conference in 2000 will know what we mean.

For information on iCEER-2004 that was held in June 2004 in Prague and Olomouc, Czech Republic, please visit  http://www.ineer.org/ITEMS/Thankyouletter7-30-04.htm. Further details on this conference and on ICEE-2003 (Valencia, Spain) and ICEE-2002 (Manchester, England) are available at  http://www.ineer.org/Events/ICEE2003Info/Welcome.htm and http://www.ineer.org/Events/ICEE2002Info/Welcome.htm  respectively.

Come also to iCEER-2005 to enjoy Taiwan's myriad scenic wonders and fascinating cultural traditions. We definitely recommend spending a few extra days in Tainan and around Taiwan either before or after the conference.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Sincerely,
