Dear Colleague:

 

On behalf of all of us and of the iNEER Board, we are pleased to invite you to serve as a founding member of the iNEER Leadership Council.  If accepted by you, your appointment will begin on July 1, 2005, and it will be for a two-year term that is renewable by mutual agreement.

 

For your information, in Appendix I we attach the draft Council charter as approved by the iNEER Board.

 

We also invite you to attend the organizational meeting of the Council on Tuesday July 26, 2005 to be held at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, Poland.  Further details of the meeting are available upon request.  

 

You are also invited to attend ICEE-2005 to be held on July 25 – 29, 2005 in Gliwice. This conference the thirteenth (13th) conference in the annual series sponsored by iNEER -- the International Network for Engineering Education and Research.  The iNEER Network and its conferences are aimed at promoting mutual progress in education and research through international cooperation.  The Network is a volunteer-based, non-profit, global professional organization supported by participating members, including representatives of industry.  The iNEER Network currently has close to 26,000 members in 98 countries.

Information about iNEER and its activities and past conferences is available at: http://www.ineer.org.  Major events and meetings during ICEE-2005 are listed in Appendix II attached to this letter.  This year, we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Silesian University of Technology.  We look forward to welcoming you to our campus anytime this year, but especially during ICEE-2005.

 

We also look forward to your acceptance of our invitation to membership in the iNEER Leadership Council, and to your leadership, guidance, advice, suggestions and support.

Leadership Council

 

(Draft)

 

 

(1)                 The iNEER Leadership Council shall be organized by the iNEER Board with members appointed by the Board based on open nomination and recommendation by Council members and members of the iNEER Network.

(2)                 The membership of the Council will comprise rectors, vice rectors,
presidents, chancellors, vice chancellors, provost, deans, etc. from
academic institutions, and senior representatives from industry and
government.

(3)                 The Council is charged to plan and execute programs and activities so as to provide a platform for networking among leaders of universities and colleges, and senior representatives of industry and government from around the world.

(4)                 The Council shall enable the sharing of information and establishing cooperative exchanges by leaders of engineering education and research, including initiating and proposing future meetings and conferences for consideration by the iNEER Board.

(5)                 The work of the Council shall be led by two co-chairs in coordination with the Secretary-General of iNEER. The co-chairs shall be elected by members of the Council and shall serve two-year renewable terms.  The co-chairs shall be responsible to jointly organize a Council meeting during a conference of the iNEER Network, and shall provide the leadership and associated administrative support, such as planning and organizing Council meetings, communicating with Council members and members of the iNEER Board, and providing the minutes of the Council meeting within 30 days after the meeting.  The medium of communication shall be English.

(6)                 To the extent possible, the Council operation shall be self-sustaining with all members providing for their travels to attend meetings, including conference registration fees.
