MEMORANDUM TO iNEER COMMUNITY – OCTOBER 21, 2002

TO: Members of the iNEER Community Worldwide

DATE October 21, 2002

Dear Colleague:

If this is the first time you are hearing from the iNEER Secretariat through its e-mail communication system, please allow us to extend a special ”WELCOME” to you. You are among 6,000+ members of the iNEER family that will be receiving correspondences from us from time to time, updating you on matters relating to international partnership in engineering education and research.

We invite your advice, support, and feedback. (If you wish to discontinue hearing from us, simply reply to this e-mail with the word ”Delete” on the subject line.)

In the next few days, we will send you information regarding, and inviting your participation in, the planning for ICEE-2003, which will be held on July 22-26, 2003 in Valencia, Spain.

Now, to better acquaint you with who we are, our ideals and what we do, may we give you a brief summary as follows?

The purpose of the International Network for Engineering Education and Research (iNEER) is to help advance engineering education and research in regions around the world through international linkages and cooperative partnerships. It is an informal, networking community comprised of educators from academe, industry and government bonded by a desire to work collaboratively to elevate the quality of engineering education in institutions around the world. The ultimate goal is to enhance the learning process in particular and the education experience in general for students who will become engineers of the 21st century.

In addition to engineering, the community also includes faculty, students and practicing professionals in related areas such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, computer engineering, education psychology and materials.

iNEER is the principal sponsor of the International Conference on Engineering Education (ICEE). In coordination with the ICEE International Steering Committee (ISC), iNEER encourages innovative ideas and models for international cooperation. The Network also helps develop collaborative initiatives emanating from these get-togethers.
