International Conference on Engineering Education and Research
iCEER-2004

Bouzov Castle, Czech Republic, June 27-30, 2004

CALL FOR PAPERS

INTEGRATION OF CROSS-CULTURAL STUDIES IN THE ENGINEERING CURRICULUM

Papers are solicited on the area of integration of cross-cultural studies in Engineering curriculum. In smaller countries (like Finland) local markets for software and IT-products, and many other products as well, are insufficient for the local industry, so it depends on export of these products. Especially in the Usability Engineering it is necessary to have keen knowledge about cultural conventions in foreign cultures; otherwise the export of technological products would be impossible. Even in the western culture there is many little things that make a product work or fail in some specific region. Between more different cultures there is many more things to be noticed in the product design. The aim of this session is to get practical ideas how to integrate cultural studies and engineering studies so that our students would be readier for tomorrows challenges designing more usable products for all of us.

This conference emphasizes development of international partnerships in education and research. Through special sessions and international workshops, it provides ample opportunity for discussing future cooperative projects.
