WOJCIECH ZIELINSKI RE-ELECTED RECTOR OF SILESIAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

Prof. Wojciech Zielinski, Rector of Silesian University of Technology (SUT), Gliwice, Poland has been re-elected to a second term as Rector. Election was held on April 20, 2005 and he was re-elected unanimously. His new term will start in September and will extend to 2008.

The Silesian University of Technology has 33,000 students with 12 faculties <http://www.polsl.pl/alma.mater/faculties.html> that are based in Gliwice, Katowice and Zabrze. A subsidiary, the Engineering Education Center <http://www.polsl.pl/alma.mater/ogolne/e-cki.html>, is located in Rybnik.

Professor Zielinski is an active member of the iNEER Network. In addition, he is member of ICEE-ISC and of iCEER-ISC (the International Steering Committee of ICEE and iCEER, respectively). He is also the General Chair of ICEE-2005, which will be held in Gliwice in July 2005 in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the university.

He was first elected Rector of SUT in 2002. Prior to that, he was Vice Rector for Education. He obtained both the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees at SUT. He was Head of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Technology of SUT during 1991–1997. He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Organic Industry in Warsaw, the Council of International University in Zittau, Germany; Polish Committee of Standards, and Polish Academy of Sciences. His research interests concern synthesis of organic compounds. He received Achievement Awards from the Ministry of Education in 1976, 1978, 1984 and 1987.
