Conference Location

Conference will be held at Grand Hotel, Taipei,Taiwan and Workshop will be held at Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan.

Registration

The registration desk will be located near Room 9 (see p.3). Registration hours are 15:00-17:00, August 13, and 8:30-16:00, August 14-16.

Welcome Reception

The welcome reception will be held at B1, Fu-chuan Room, the Grand Hotel, on Sunday, 13 August 18:30-20:00

Banquet

The conference banquet will be held at 12F, Sky Lounge, the Grand Hotel, on Monday, 14 August 18:30-21:00

Pool-side Dinner

The pool-side dinner will be held at Yuan-Shan Club, the Grand Hotel, on Wednesday, 16 August 18:30-21:00.

Language

The official language of the ICEE2000 is English. No simultaneous translation will be provided.In Taiwan, the national language is Mandarin Chinese, though other dialects are also spoken. Many people can speak some English (the most wildly studied foreign language), but taxi drivers generally speak only Chinese.

Accommodation

A block of rooms has been reserved for ICEE2000 attendees at the Grand Hotel, Taipei, Taiwan and Tainan Hotel, Tainan. Please use the accommodation and transportation reservation form.

Transportation

Taiwan is located at the crossroads of some Asia's busiest air routes, travel to and from the island is easy and convenient. Taiwan is served by airlines from Asia, Europe and North America. The island has two international airports, at Taoyuan in the north and at Kaohsiung in the southuth. Chiang Kai-shek(CKS) International Airport at Taoyuan is 40 kilometers (24.8 miles) southwest of Taipei. .
CKS Airport to Taipei Hotels
Getting to Taipei hotels is easy by taxi. It takes about 50 minutes by car in normal traffic. The taxi fare to hotel is about US$44-$50(NT$1300-$1500) per car; one car accommodates 2-3 people, depending on number of accompanying luggage. Although transportation to and from the airport is easy and convenient, we suggest you reserve airport pickup along with hotel reservation.
Departure from KHH International Airport
The distance from Tainan to Kaohsiung¡]KHH¡^is 50 kilometers, and is 300 kilometers from Tainan to CKS Int'l Airport. KHH International Airport provides flights to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Osaka, Singapore, Tokyo and Taipei. Therefore, you could arrange your departure flight from KHH if possible.

Travel Visas

Visa Exempt Entry
Visitor Visa is required for foreign-passport holders. However, if your passport and the length of your visit to Taiwan satisfy the following terms, then no visa is required: (1) you are holding passport from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands (Holland), Portugal, Spain, Sweden, U. K., and U. S. A; (2) your passport is valid longer than 6 months; (3) a confirmed return air ticket for departure; and (4) the length of your visit is less than 14 days.

Landing Visa
Eligible countries for application:
(1) If you are holding passport from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, the Netherlands (Holland), Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U K, and USA; (2) your passport is valid longer than 6 months; (3) a confirmed return air ticket for departure; and (4) the length of your visit is less than 30 days. You may apply for a landing visa at the Visa Office at C. K. S. International Airport, Bureau of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Business Visa
Visa can be obtained from Taiwan embassies, consulates, or designated representative offices. Climate

Taiwan climate is subtropical, with average annual temperatures of 22¢J (72¢K) in the north and 24¢J (75¢K) in the south. Summers, which last from May through September, are usually hot and humid with average daytime highs from 27¢J to 35¢J (81¢K to 95¢K).

Currency

The New Taiwan dollar (NT$) is the Taiwan official currency. The exchange rate in recent months has been shifting between NT$30-NT$31 to US$1. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at government designated banks and hotels. Receipts are given when currency is exchanged, and must be presented in order to exchange unused NT dollars before departure.
