Notions and Reality of Employment Practice of the VSB-TU Graduates and their Interest in Further Cooperation with the University

Abstract: Two stages of sociologic investigation of the graduates from the VSB Technical University Ostrava were carried out at this University within the years 1997 to 1998. The first stage covered the graduates from 1992 -1995 (642 responses), the second one from 1996-97(626 responses). These investigations were performed on the basis of questionaires and brought about very interesting observations that could contribute to improvement of educational process, to updating of the contents of the individual lines of study as well as in consulting.

Within the framework of the Grant No. 1310/1998 a sociologic investigation was carried out at the VSB-TU under the name “System of long-time monitoring der of the development of both offer and demand for university qualification on the job market”

This paper presents in graphic form some responses of the VŠB-TU graduates especially to their:

• theoretically repeated choice of the line of study
• notions and expectations concerning their chances in the job market, when are they satisfied with their rank in the society and the possibilities of self-realization, when are they less satisfied though still at the level of average satisfaction with their salaries and possibilities of job position careers
• assessment of the contents of the line of study which is important both from the viewpoint of the general as well as specialised preparation with emphacy on sufficient number of subjects of study to choice
• interest in further learning and cooperation with the University.
